Materialism at its Finest

Soo I was the Biggest Cash Money fan in high-school. I'm talking about, had all the new releases, had the entire discography, knew most of the lyrics, and all that jazz. Now that I think back from my current situation... What was I thinking? SMH For Real? Although I admit, what I got out of it was pure entertainment. I mean the over glorification of material possessions, the glorification of a bad situation. Contrary to such things it did set the tone for the music at the time, all production was on point, and the whole New Orleans/Southern "Game Spitting" thing had people hook, line, sinker all day. I being one of them. I wont attempt some big educational rant about their one time legacy, but will cut the crap and give you your daily dose of materialism...

Representing that UPTOWN!

Sooo, I'm not gone act like I know everything there is to know about This World Famous Record Label. Or act as if I've been a wishy washy fan who could chronicle the highs & lows, and how they've seen better years, then signed a few new cats and now there back on top. Nor will I front like I used to be up on them back when Hip-Hop was real. FOH. I will say this, some of my fondest early memories have been coming to surface as of late, and I vividly remember seeing there unforgettable stamp/logo on the back of a cassette or two when I was a child. How can a child not feel related to there logo. Its a border-line anime character! Regardless of what your memories of Duck Down are, or if you've never heard them before. I suggest you get familiar as I stroll through some material celebrating the first 15 of Duck Down Records.

Hail The Almighty

Sooo, I really appreciate what the Beastie Boys have done for music. These kids are the precursor to immediately current bands like NinjaSonik and artist like Fat Tony. Don't you for a minute think that since they were white in a predominately black industry they were overlooked. PLEASE, these cats were heavily Respected Then, Legends Now! Yet they are also trendsetters to the Hip-Hop and Rap genres(YES THERE IS A DIFFERENCE). So to that I tip my new era and bow to the almighty Beastie Boys, and dont even get me started on Mix Master Mike. The music featured below are from their first two albums, please buy them.

Slow & Low
3 Minute Rule
Posse In Effect
Hold It Now Hit It

Moving to Metropolis

Sooo, yeah. Been a fan of Janelle Monae since I heard her go on an outkast track, either Morris Brown or Letting Go. Then I heard some of her own material. AMAZING. Although I have actually never saw the movie Metropolis, but from what I've read about it seems to be the cinematographic shish. Seems to have been father to all those big brother/corporate/Illuminati type movies. Yeah so the whole Blade Runner concept was thought of before it was even thought of! So from that movie one can take a lot, as did Janelle Monae. She has, in her music, made the concept character of Cindy Mayweather. If you're familiar with such, no need to explain. Enjoy the mix. If you are unfamiliar, CATCH UP TO THE ELITE, and enjoy the mix.

The Chase
Violent Stars/Happy Hunting
Many Moons
Cold War
My Favorite Nothing

Long Distance to Freedom

Dubs Up

Sooo, I had been wanting to do a Old School WestCoast mix. To make matters of even more importance, my homie Lump had a birthday a few weeks ago(LEO). He asked me to do one. So this is actually past due. But when I'm talking old west in thecontext of what I've been doing, its obvious you cant do a straight respect-FULL homage paying mix in 15 minutes. So this is only the first installment of How the West Was Won. And when I mean The West I mean all of Cali and all contributing cities west of Nevada. Also when I say West. I mean all contributing players, players like Ant Banks & The Dangerous Crew, Dj Muggs, Zapp, etc.

SoulChildsSounds

Soo, a good man under the name Marlon Hall asked me to do an underground soul artist mix. It took me a few days to weed through the unexpected pitfalls, shortcomings, and surprises, but here is the first 15 or so minutes there of. So I had to actually compile this one, I wanted to "Mix/Dj" more, but with this... This calls for fades, and minimal showmanship which is contrary to how I operate on the regular. So apologies and thanks, for the following SoulPleasingA/CMusicalSounds.

The Keeper = Bonobo feat Andreya Triana
Love Like = Zaki Ibrahim
Different = Goapele feat Mos D
Hallucination = Cilla K

Mama's Records

Soo, Its again sunday. Saturday night either went one of four ways for most of the general population:1) Under the influence of sin, 2) Wanted to be under the influence of sin, 3) Wasted time but somehow still tired, 4) Had an awesome time. One of (or a combination of) was your role to play as the time ticked until you eventual wound up on the floor, a car, or a bed. Then almost against all odds you somehow wake up, and as if sleep wasn't enough to shake you out of things, ya need to get right. What do you do in contrast to being in a world of bodily anarchy a mere 3-8 hours ago? You either go to church and jam some "Old School". Or say my body is my temple, pass on church and listen to some "Old School". So I give you that "Sunday Early occasion / Late Night session" OLD SCHOOL mix.

GONE! ! !

Soo, Upon waking, I am still looking at what it means to sacrifice. Most immediately it reminds me of the most common sacrifice people make. Happiness! I am instantly reminded of a conversation I had with a friend turned ex turned friend turned dependent. Situation is, I had talked to child in literally at least the better part of 6 years, our paths cross. We talked, during dialogue the she explains her current pending relationship, and how there is super turmoil. Like arrests and family and drama and cheating. So I attempt to explain sacrifice and the benefits. Long story short, we end conversation. Two weeks later I have the thought of listening to my own advice, then come Sunday what is the main ideology of proclamation via the Good Folks at A.M.? Sacrifice. So many times people Sacrifice themselves for others, when the other persons happiness would not be sacrificed for that person. It may seem hard people, but'cha'got'ta'du'wit! So todays Mix is that of a soundtrack to your moment to help process it. By the power vested in me, I present to you:

Out Of The Blue - Ryan Leslie
Gone Baby Gone - Erykah Badu
Let It Go - Georgia Anne Muldrow
When It Hurts So Bad - Lauryn Hill

None Of That Jive Talk here, JACK!

Soo, yesterday I watched a (with all due respect)uber-coon-inematography-esque() youtube video of Petey Greene(I will NOT post the link) explaining how to enjoy watermelon. Although I will say this, it was hella funny & nigarious with a high ratio of quotability for days on out of enjoyment. If your not familiar with the iconic & groundbreaking Petey Greene I urge you to exercise your patience in conjunction with your humorous side and find out more about the trendsetting and groundbreaking Mr.Greene I mean the man won TWO EMMY's. Yet, you may ask what does this have to do with today's mix, well Petey Greene rose to fame in the 70's in Washington D.C.. So then I wondered what would a provocative man such as Petey Greene listen to or watch besides himself seeing as he was on both radio + T.V.? Being that it was the 70's and he considered himself "The Finest Of Negros", one could only speculate it was the film/music genre revered, praised, then exploited by "whitey/the man" himself: Blaxploitaion. Although this is funky enough to make Dam-Funk & Bootsy make a stank face. These tunes are not necessarily from the films, more so cultivated from the era. For Your Funkiest Activities I give you:

Boscos Billionaires - Freddy Ribs
Chitlin Strut - The Backyard Heavies
I Got The... - Labi Striffe
Pulp Fusion - Gordon Staples and the Motown

Sooo, Yeah. Haven't posted a video to this site since last year(Literally!). This one right here though. MANNE! Its live. Its provocative. Its to the point. Also antagonizes the question; Do You Know?

That ill 90Something Street Rhymes

Soo, I have had a recent string of waking up late, and when you have to produce a thematic 15 minute "quick mix" daily from scratch its a pleasure and pain. Especially when your pressed for time. None the less I still produce them for your enjoyment! Today's installment is of the 90's Hip-Hop(the real kind) nature. That gritty street rhyme. Put to grimly melodic bass chords and 4/4 measures. Delivered in mannerisms to which even any lame jive ass surburban sucka could relate to it, or get the picture and understand it. If you would close your eyes, open your ears. . . As we:

Who Do You Believe Inn.

Soo, I had this thought like in 2005 to come up with a themed mix all about religion it would feature artist of a not so obvious stereotype of their religion such as Brother Ali, Tupac, & Matisyahu and such. It would be religion reference heavy. It would also be strong and moving. I had always cradled the idea, Until Today. Since I had this ill dream, simply put it was snowing in August, I flew from the porch in my mothers backyard to the trees at the gate over her big plot of grass, then there was some weird effects going on in the sky but at the same time it was snowing in August. When I got to her, she exclaimed something to the issue of "its the end of the world". Then my pseudo-dumbass says: "Thats why I've been going to church", then fly off. WEIRD. All dreams aside this is not of the same technicality that I have aforementioned. It is of the same thematic nature... Just me in my current state of affairs, especially within the past few days have only now begun to understand a few things. I read something yesterday that flipped a few things, ish was deep too. Not philosophical at all, but better than some of these half-ass twitter and facebook status's I've been reading. Still it struck a nerve. So I leave you with that statement: Don't be afraid of death. Be afraid you're life won't start.

Feeling Sound

Soo, I woke up, Thank God I woke up. I didn't have to woke up. Only thing is. I woke up late, so late in fact I had to resort to an original idea done from scratch. I had always wanted to do an Instrumental Only mix. So I did. Only it was for Tamika Handys Unite Houston Project. From what I hear it was quite the successful event. Regardless when I was doing this, I wanted to convey a sense of attention and relaxation. So I did.

01 Watch Me(instrumental) = used by Little Brother
02 Not Enough(instrumental) = used by Little Brother
03 Tonights Da Night(instrumental) = used by Redman
04 Strawberry Letter(instrumental) = used by Clive Davis feat. Akon
05 All For You(instrumental) = used by Little Brother
06 Heard 'Em Say(instrumental) = used by Kanye West feat. Adam Levine

Influent Hueston

Soo, I always wanted to find a way to put Michelle Thibeaux and Juz Coz in a post. Thank You to Tamika Handy, I was originally supposed to Dj her Unite Houston function. Things lead to other things and now I am proud to have put together a mix of positive Houston artist, of course the original is only to be played at her function, which has more music on it, but fear not. This is about 18minutes worth of Great Hueston music. Originally I wanted to do this back when Neon Collars was doing the Influent Streams, then even more so when the great folks over at A.M. did the My Hueston Is campaign. MANNE!!! S'goin Dine Baby. Gotta Love It. None the less. As hunger besets me, I give to you. Done Fresh Daily what I like to call: The Downtown Music Exchange (Houston from a different stand point)

The Otherside of Sacrifice

Soo, I'm back. during my brief intermission, I've been on Ted(.com PauseGrandad) more than a little bit. Some things have resonated and stayed with me more than others. The main two I draw from are this one by a phenomenal woman Sheena Iyengar + Gary Vaynerchuk. As well as the fact that I am a follower of Christ(Not So Much A Christian, but that's up for debate), and was commissioned to do a mix that emphasizes Freedom & Sacrifice. Contrary to this commissioned need to express that through music. I can't wholeheartedly convey feelings of sacrifice this way, or at least not give a mix to a group of people on a sunday and not have them feeling like a border line emo manic-depressant. Also they asked to keep it upbeat. So, hey, go figure. None the less this (mixset)is more of a focus on the pay off. The moment when all has come to the surface that was once keeping you so stressed. Anyway. I present to you:

01. Lovely Day - Bill Withers
02. Golden - Jill Scott(ZO!!! Rmx)
03. Count Your Blessings - Nas & Damien Marley
04. Sky Is Ours - Dam-Funk

The Randomest of Tones

Soo, Every morning I wake up at random intervals of time and process how I feel. Which is extremely difficult to compile a thematic music compilation daily, from nothing. So at this point of about roughly 12 days out of 15 days, this has become a daunting task to produce daily from nothing. Yet and still, I produce. Now today I had a talk with a great guy I know, goes by the name Rockwell. We had hit the topic of Big Boi's new album, and how great it is. This made me think of one of the outstanding tracks on the album; You Ain't No Dj. That song stayed with me all the night into the waking hours. Then, it hit me. Dj's make things happen. Real Dj's make music happen. Regardless of the genre. So I randomly went through a folder and mixed in some songs. "The freedom is better than breathing they said". So this is what I give to you. Randumb

God's Gonna Cut You Down - Johnny Cash

Soo, Ive been trying to find a way to feed you some of Gossip's music for at least the past two sessions. Also I am still working on a presentation to give you some of La Roux's music as well, but soon come. Any way, Not only is Gossip an amazing band, I am hopelessly emotional for their front woman, Beth Ditto. Also another front woman I'm pleased to be under the musical muse of, is Emily Haines. Then there is Amanda Blank, as well as Santigold and my ex-boo Fionna Apple. All in all these are my go to girls when the Main Misses ain't getting it. . . Who? Who are the main Misses you ask? Baby Gurrl

Soo, I remember it when it all happened. Ten days after my birthday, I wake up Saturday morning to MTV news. A breaking news report appears. Her plane has crashed. Just to move before that, to see a woman not in the public eye too much, yet a positive role model to young urban women and men on how to properly conduct themselves. Even as I sit and am forced to accept the given details, I cannot help but think it was a conspiracy theory. Aside from my feelings of a growing Huey Freeman. I miss the material produced, as well as the possibility. DISCLAIMER: This is by no means a best of, this is simply a treatment if you would, of her music produced. This is also not the last time you will hear me do an Aaliyah mix. With out any further words or context, I give you:

King Purple

Soo, there's a state. Not popular for much, maybe a few things. . . Cheeseheads, Snow, and oddities. By that I mean odd stuff, like its the 12th largest state, known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes", Mall of America, and of all other things, Musical Influence on History by way of King Purple himself. Prince. This man (w/ the assistance of others) changed music, made history and had everyone sweating & working it out in the later half of the 80's and well into the 90's, still travels, still sells out, still puts out music, will side eye you and eye molest you in a flash, and will do it all in some pumps and mascara with the pants with the booty cheeks cut out and you won't even feel dirty or mad after it. There is a certain kind of sexual prowess exuded in the music, and that's not even talking about the women he has worked with. Now I am trying to keep these feelings down, but that damn Apolonia & that Vanity 6 album cover just do something to me. Now that was sexy far beyond anything Ciara can pull off in any video! Its not right the way I feel about them covers. Any way that is enough about that topic. This mix is more of a concentration to what Price (+ The Revolution) have contributed to creating a certain style/sound and more directly, those artist who with some degree of immediate seperation, used it usually under/with him.
I.) A Love Bizarre = Shelia E
II.) Kiss = Prince
III.) Ice Cream Castle = Morris Day & The Time

BlahDay/Monday

Sooo, this one conveys feelings about Mondays. Sure I've done one before about Mondays, just. You know how sometimes you didn't do anything so your waiting for Monday. Then some weekends you don't want monday to get here. Then, there are those certain Mondays where you had a semi-good weekend, and you think its going to carry over because you felt that something was missing from your weekend, so God was going to slide it into your Monday. Only to look out the window and see its cloudy and dull. . . So now your stuck in a bit of a potentially mucky, murky place waiting for you to get your rhythm? As I sit here half asleep in the daylight I type. Not wanting to continue I cut to the chase. Monday, WhaEvuhUSay. . .

Juicy Dancing

Soo, its Friday. I've been on Social Network sites all week, sites like FaceBook & Twitter. I notice people for some reason or another have a strong motion towards quoting shit. People especially LOVE to quote deep philosophical stuff. While knowing that no where on their agenda for the week or weeks past have they actually said these quotes aloud. Nor have they even taken a Philosophy class. Yet and still they try to be deep and meaningful, but don't apply it or even take a conditioning to it. So I am here to combat that. Since its Friday, & I've dealt with these low-life halfway philosophical hush puppy cornballs all week. I don't want to sit here and quote some stuff or ponder and give you something meaningful. I want to give you some MEANINGFUL. Something that will help you get away from the faux-bourgeoisie complex having syndicates. People don't want to think! They just want to feel!

Munny Re-Issue

Soo, I could go on some big rant about money to describe the feelings induced and deducted by money, but you already know what/how that works. Or I could go on some outrageous rant talking about the economic situation and the claims of a recession, and the actualities of the situation. So whatever. . . so originally I had did this in the morning now this is my second post I took the time to re-record the entire mix, and re-post it. So here is take two:

This One Goes Out TO YOU, TO YOU, THIS ONE GOES...

Sooo. While I was at the Guilty Simpson concert, I witnessed this Dj. He was live, he was a GOOD Dj, BUUUTTTTT! While I was listening to his song selection, it hit me! Why is there a certain few songs that most Djs play during their "HIP-HOP Sets"? I love A Tribe, I love Krs One, I love Gangstarr, ya know. Really though kid? EVERY SET? Johnny! Put 'em in a bodybag. I'm dying out here. So what can I do to thwart this repetitive notion? Educate the people on other "lesser known" but equally good songs. On this one I opted to leave out the "party" vibe, although back then that was a good thing about Hip-Hop, it was for all other purposes, stress relief and fun. This mix treads the line between the Streets and the Party. This Hip-Hop from about 1979-1990ish. Featuring one of my all time favorites Busy Bee... Lest not waist time:

R1.Its A Demo = Kool G Rap
R2.Suicide = Busy Bee
R3.Court Is Now In Session = Chill Rob G
R4.The Show Stoppa = Super Nature
R5.Sparky's Turn = Sparky D
R6.Just Buggin = Whistle

Going Back

Sooo, I am a faithfull believer in a higher power (God,Allah, Jah, Jehova, Jaira, Karishna, You Pick). So due to unforeseen issues and circumstances I was without a laptop. What a blessing in disguise, I am a real Dj right? I got vinyl. No big deal. I've done this before. Cool. So I did it. It came out REAL nice, like amazing! There is something about that feeling that is produced by your body when you hear that hiss, cracking, and popping sound when you put a needle on a record. MAAANNNNEEEEE. Sorry... So I wasn't able to upload and what not because I was pressed for time. So later that night I was Dj'd our Fat Tony set at the J Rocc + Guilty Simpson concert. While there I got a chance to see Baby Jae of the all mighty CrackerNutz. All I will say is Motivation. So I apologize for any wackness, So *IF* you ever feel anything I do is wack (terms of music composition/scratching), contact me, we'll talk it out, we will get money together + prosper. Sorry just had to let y'all know what/how I feel. Without further adieu, I present: Vinyl Love

Sweat It Out (A Double Standard)

Sooo, I went to SxSw this year, while there saw many great bands, very few Dj's. Though of the Dj's I saw, I got a chance to sneak into the Fools Gold Party and check out Sammy Bananas & some of Maggie Horn which together are quite possibly in my top 5 favorite duo's of all time right after Moses & Aaron. Of course Outkast is just before them at #1, any who, while Sammy Bananas while playing there was one song inparticular that he played. It was a remix/re-fix of R.Kelly's bump and grind. Mind you this was in March, so this has been like 6 months in the making... Matter of fact I dont even think this is the proper song he played but heck, its A ok with me. Its so live. So take off your shoes, tie your hair, put on something a little more skimmpy and sweat it out. This one is simple and to the point. Not to mention the first two songs are 90's R&B track that were once used to sweat it out(HINT HINT WINK WINK), and are now used to sweat it out... Her'jew Go Manne:

Bump-&-Grind - R.Kelly / Turbo P remix
Freak You - Jodeci / MK Dub remix
On The DanceFloor - David Guetta feat. Wil.I.Am & Apl D Ap / Chuckie remix

Guilty Until Proven Innocent

Soo, I'm not going to front like I've been all up on dude for a long time. I had been hearing the name and what not, but never could actually place a song to the name. I had known his story for quite some time, you can find out his story either here or here
. So this is my song I sing. Guilty Simpson is a dope artist from Detroit, has the respect of Eminem, Trick Trick, and many other Detroit city artist. Also not to mention the man is on Stones Throw Records and is multiple time collaborator with the astute J.Dilla, Black Milk, Mad Lib and all types of Hip Hop artist and producers. "I'll go flop before I go pop"- Guilty Simpson didn't say that, I just think it fits. Anyway, without further adieu today's mix:
1/Ode To The Ghetto - Guilty Simpson
2/Hold Your Applause - Guilty Simpson
3/100 Styles - Guilty Simpson
4/I Must Love You - Guilty Simpson
5/Karma of a Kingpin - Guilty Simpson
6/Gone Crazy Interlude - Guilty Simpson
7/Hood Sentence - Guilty Simpson
8/My Moment - Guilty Simpson
9/Cali Hills - Guilty Simpson

Before Wayne and Jay-Z there was A Man. . .

Soo, I can fondly remember being a kid in '93 at a private school on the West Side of Cleveland, Oh. Where there, there was this kid(of course white), he was named Eric. One of those not necessarily trying to "act" of a different nature, but rather was just bad and a product of his environment. Anyway, we were in gym class, and it was like one of the last days of school, you know the half-ass ones where you don't even change out of uniform. So, Eric is telling me about this tape he took from his brother, he pulls it out and low and behold. Its Tupac's second album, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. Which by the way, I never understood what it stood for? Even before that I remember seeing a short cameo from when he was a member of Digital Underground, in the mover Nothing But Trouble. Then to only go a few years later and drop a Grammy nominated Album supllied by A Grammy nominated Single. Then to further that. . . You know what this man has accomplished. Then only to fall from Grace, then be resurrected numerous occasions through music, ink, and fine arts. If you are unfamiliar, please do your work on his WikiPedia Page. Without further adieu; All Eyez On Makaveli Against The World *This is a culmination of the final three official solely dedicated albums*

01/ It Ain't Easy
02/ Only God Can Judge Me feat. Rappin 4'Tay

Freestyle For Love

Sooo, This one means a lot to me. Being that I am half Puerto Rican and all. Plus this is somewhat what I was raised on, during a period in my life. I fondly remember going to my TiTi Melinda's parties on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio. It was SOOOO LIVE, or at least what I can remember, they used to go hard, all night. Any way! The Musical Genre covered in this mix is called Freestyle. Straight from a 1970's disco, to the syncopated, synthetic instrumentation of 1980's electro, had House not come into effect in the early 90's I believe Freestyle would still be a popular genre today. Which is where that whole Miami/Florida bass style deviated from. Don't believe me? Reference any Real older Puerto Rican, or anyone from NY in the late 80'searly 90's, preferably The Bronx. Hell it was even featured in Wild Style & Beat Street. So with no further adieu, from a corner of my memory bank, I Present: Freestyle For Love
*1-Show Me = The Cover Girls
*2-Crush On You = The Jets
*3-Come Go With Me = Exposure
*4-Spring Love = Stevie B
*5-Can You Feel The Beat = Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam
*6-I Wonder If I Take You Home = Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam

I'm Going In. Cover Me.

Sooo, Some artist make such a lasting impact on others lives through their art form that people try to recreate or render the medium by their own means of reproduction. Weather it be a print of an a art work, a "study" which is a fancy term for biting their shii, or some fall so hard they maybe even have it inked in a tattoo form. or maybe their obsession is of a different nature, that of music. So for that vice their is karaoke, cars, bathrooms, and even those plastic microphones with a long spring in them. Then there is Youtube.com which is a different beast of a completely different nature. There are 100's of 1,000's of videos of people who have taken to their webcams to cover their favorite artists songs. Whatever genre they want to cover or render, they are all on the web. Hey some even make it to the Ellen show, or other C-List celebrity talk shows. So with no further adieu; I give you 15 Minutes of Cover Me Bad:

03/Ice Cream Paint Job=The Cataracs

That 90's kind of love, pt.1

Soo, born in the 80's, raised the 90's corrupted in the 10's. I was singing this song and I couldn't remember the artist, so I ask my R&B aficionado friend Mr.Fanfair. He couldn't think of it at the time either. So later that day he calls me. and ever since I've been singing the song on & off. So today was one of those days. Hopefully this will do. The song is out of my head & into your ears... This was the best way one could some up early 90's R&B. When it was right on the cusp of the New Jack Swing era. Anyway. Whateva.

Me & My Sunday

Ahhh Sunday, the wackness of what has been your week is gone by. DONE / OVER / FINITO / FIN! Chances are you have put your sunday sleep in jeopardy with a late night of vices and sins, but hey, I hope you put your heart in it. Now, all you want to do is (according to the weather); drink lemonade and chill out & maybe (go) get something to eat OR, Sleep, wake up, eat, repeat. At least thats kind of how my sunday would go in my ideal world. Speaking of my ideal world, every great character needs music, not necessarily theme music per se, but some good background music. So I think if I could score my sunday in under 15 minutes, this is roughly the score to my ideal sunday. Soo, Ladies, more Ladies, and Gentlemen; My Ideal Sunday Score (as broken down by times not song numbers):

11:00am / Groove = Bobby Lyle
2:00pm / Harlem River Drive = Eddie Palmieri
6:00pm / As = Gene Harris ant The Three Sounds
9:00pm / Lush Life = Nancy Wilson

The Modern Grown Folk

Sooo, back in the gap they had some good solid bands ranging from Maze feat. Frankie Beverly to Pink Floyd, even out to Abba, The Sex Pistols, & The Gap Band were all great bands. Some still touring today, either that or getting fat off publishing checks. Which now leads to today to some of these old birds to have saying "You don't know nothing about that there", or "Thats before your time", and my favorite "OHHH. Thats grown folks music". Which lead me to put together a reflection of some artist (*SOME ARTIST*) who would be considered as "Grown Folks Music" for some modern adults. These are just some of the ever widening artist who produce good music, both Independent and Commercially. Very seldom on the commercial tip, but still. SO PLEASE support these artist. None the less, I have selected a few; and one artist on this selection will be performing at Our Image Film Festival, today here in Houston, Tx at Cafe 4212. Located at 4212 Almeda. His name is Bel_Ami, the man is uber-talented. Please once again show your support.
1) Mmm Hmm - Erykah Badu
2) Run Away - Georgia Anne Muldrow
3) Many People - Amir Bel.Ami
4) Now or Never - The Rootsfeat. Dice Raw/Phonte

Before the Lady of GaGa there was one. . .

Sooo I'm not afraid to say I'm a fan of Lady GaGa. Crazy I know right. Or rather maybe I appreciate what she is doing for commercial music right now. She is making these people step their game up. ALL THE WAY UP. She is a world wide artist at this point. Fashion/Art/Music all in one. Sounds good for her right(although they say she stole Roisin Murphy's style)? Ask yourself how did she get here. Someone else had to open the doors and set the bar very high(which she still hasn't surpassed)? Who would be such a rebel, who could show these scamps how to do it? WAIT?!?!?! Her? That old chick? She did what with a Puerto Rican Flag on tour while she was on tour? YEP, MADONNA! the O.G. to this female controversy stuff. She set the standard for artistic whatevers and pushed the music for the whoevers. So here is just a small dance-ier walkthrough of her some of her material. I tried to put as much as I could into this 15(really like 17) minutes of my mix. Here you go
01.La Isla Bonita = Madonna
02.Justify My Love = Madonna
03.Like A Prayer = Madonna
04.Open Your Heart = Madonna
05.Holiday = Madonna
06.Get Into The Groove = Madonna
07.Lucky Star = Madonna
08.Papa Don't Preach = Madonna
09.4 Minutes(Bob Sinclair Remix) = Madonna
10.Give It To Me = Madonna feat.Pharell
Hail The Queen
P.S. before Madonna was Grace Jones. Do ya homework suckas! But y'all dont like that. . . OWWW.

Indie Whensdie

Soo my friend Bernice has been asking me to get her a copy of this artist that I let her listen to like more than 5 months ago. I have been saying I would burn it for her, but I haven't. Its not like I don't want to do it. It's just the whole, receiving an Independent artists EP which has three songs on it versus buying an independent artists EP which only has three songs on it. Ya Feel Me? So any way instead of giving that to her I wanted to get in on the action and dance around a few laws and show my support to these artist in my ways of which only a Dj can. I would also like to add IF YOU EVER like any of the music by any of the artist featured in/on these mixes/conversation/videos, PLEASE, SUPPORT THEM! ! ! So with no further delay check out these Independent artist...

In My DREAMS

Sooo, I had a crazy ass dream. There were people I know, places I've grown up at/in, I was flying, there were some cute girls, I was making decisions, there were immediate scene changes, also instantaneous time and place changes as well, not to mention some cute girls, even colors, and places, and stuff. WOW! Thank God for dreams. Praise Jah for riddims. Thanks be to Allah for our abilities to muster the strength to combine them. So with all being stated, here is my presentation. Songs about dreams. This is just the first time to do it by the way, there will be more. I am really going to create a rendition of a dream through the soundtrack provide by my imagination coming soon. Maybe on the next rainy morning here in Houston. I feel I got the gist of it, but there were some songs I purposefully left out due to time constraints. . .

D1. Dream On = AeroSmith
D2. Like A Dream = Chrisette Michelle
D3. DayDreaming = Lupe Fiasco feat. Jill Scott
D4. It Was All A Dream = Jay-Z feat. Faith Evans & The Notorious B.I.G.

Ammo-A-GoGo

As taken from This Wikipedia Page "D.C. has its own native music genre called go-go; a post-funk, percussion-driven flavor of R&B that blends live sets with relentless dance rhythms". This music has a good amount of history, change, and influence, not just those songs by Salt-N-Pepa back in the day and a Amerie hit, it is worth checking out. The style/genre of GoGo stretches back to the early funkier beginnings with Chuck Brown(featured on this mix, I mean its only right)who is credited with practically creating GoGo, to the uber popular E.U. Band who practically launched GoGo, to the Classic GoGo staple by J.Y.B. "Sardines", for more on GoGo either talk to anyone from THE REAL H.U.. OR 1.) Download the mix, 2.) Go Here, 3.) I was deemed an "Out Cast"

Soo, today I quickly delve into the world of the greatest duo of all time, arguably across the board but definitely in Rap AND Hip-Hop (YES THERE IS A DIFFERENCE): the certified diamond selling, 5 mics(when it ment something) world renowned Outkast! ! ! In this mix I tried to stay away from guest appearances, but if you know Outkasts story than you know there was the influence of Erykah Badu who is I believe the only actual noteable guest, outside of that that straight Kast folk. Which I must say I or one could not compile an essential Outkast mix, which this is not, in the span of 15 minutes. This is simply what I felt when I stepped to my turntables this morning. Sure its all above the 105 BPM mark, but still... SO! Ladies, More Ladies & Gentlemen I present Dat Kast; Outkast. Oh yeah, hey! They even had their own clothing line
1/Wheelz Of Steel - Outkast
2/Funkin Around - Outkast
3/Humble Mumble - Outkast feat Erykah Badu
4/Art Of StoryTelling pt.1 - Outkast
5/The Train - Outkast

A recent string of Keys

And then there is this one group. The Black Keys. Vocalist & Guitarist Dan Auerbach and Drummer & Producer Patrick Carney, coming straight out of the wicked streets of Akron, OHIO. Got together in 2001, and ever since they have been putting out some amazing music. So much so that they have as of recently garnered the attention of the man who made Jay-Z, well one of them at least. Any way, for more info, hit up their wiki page, hell I did. This mix is comprised of A song from *Attack & Release* few songs from most recent body of work *Brothers* and one song from a side project in between those, under the wing of Creative Control, who I must say actually inspired me to even do this blog stuff anyway. NONE THE LESS. Eating Time.

RETURN TO THE 36 CHAMBERS

Sooo, there was once an artist who was of equal relevance to Andy Warhol but of a music stance. There was once an artist who by no means gave second thought to his actions. There was once an artist who set the standard for the individual style. There was once an artist who since their shot into the worlds music ear has filled the void, and even in death has not been replaced. That ARTIST. Ladies & Gentlemen by any other name you could call him Russle Jones, Big Baby Jesus, Osirus, Dirt Dog, even Dirt McGirt, but please know that his name is T H E Ol Dirty Bastard. He is part of Pop Culture via art, he the topic discussions, he has been covered by other artist, he is even so iconic that he has been inked on somebody via tattoo. This Man has a legacy

So I was around the internet and decided to stop by the good folks at HipHopIsRead. I had been contemplating whether to do a Afro-Colombian set or some REAL Hip Hop. . . Just like an old WWF tag team match, with some outside assistance from their website Hip-Hop won. I had also been wanting to educate some on the sheer brilliance of the RZA and soul sampling, so thats how I kick it off. Cats & Dogs your treat, MY 15 MINUTES IN THE 36 Chambers:
I Like It : The Emotions
Shimmy Shimmy Ya : Ol Dirty Bastard
Baby C'mon : Ol Dirty Bastard
Its A New Day : Skull Snaps
Hippa To Da Hoppa : Ol Dirty Bastard
Dirty Dancin : Ol Dirty Bastard feat. Method Man
